Air Vent

An air vent releases trapped air from fire pipework, which otherwise cushions the system and delays water reaching the head.

Air release is required where NFPA 13 systems can trap air at high points.

Automatic and manual types both exist; on a wet system the vent must not admit air back into the pipe.
