TED Bernhardtz Textile Industry — Fire Detection & Protection

A multi-year fire detection and protection package for a working textile mill in Tongi, Gazipur — delivered in phases around live production, and design-reviewed and approved by the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC).

Independently design-reviewed

Both the Fire Detection & Alarm and Standpipe & Sprinkler designs RADS produced were formally submitted to the RMG Sustainability Council and passed independent third-party design review. The review covered the hydraulic calculation, the pump set selection, and the underground fire main and branch-pipe routing.

This matters more than any equipment list: it is external verification that our engineering meets the standard, not simply our own assurance that it does.

Fire detection & alarm

Addressable system built on Eaton (Cooper), UK equipment, across two control panels. Certified at completion:

  • 127 detectors — 18 smoke, 47 heat, 62 multi-sensor
  • 68 manual call points and 157 sounder/strobe units
  • 25 tamper switches and 18 pressure switches monitoring the protection system
  • 16 fire/smoke dampers, 13 HVAC shutdown interfaces
  • Lift recall and shunt-trip interfaces
  • Six NAC power extenders for notification-circuit loading

Fire protection

  • MS pipe network, 25–200 mm, above ground and underground
  • Sprinkler heads, six pillar hydrants, hose cabinets
  • OS&Y and flexible-drop valves, zone control valves, pressure-reducing valves
  • Diesel and electric fire pump set, 1000 GPM, with jockey pump and dedicated controllers
  • Acceptance testing to standard — above-ground and underground pipe tests, pump acceptance with supply-versus-demand curves

Passive protection & ancillaries

  • 16 smoke curtains serving two lift shafts across ground to seventh floor, with group controllers
  • 24 × 3-hour UL-10C fire-rated steel doors and 6 × UL-555 fire dampers
  • Fire-barrier and collar sealing to service penetrations
  • Desiccant dehumidification plant and access control

Delivery

Work was completed in April 2026, tested and commissioned, and formally handed over on 28 April 2026. The fire detection system carries a full System Record of Completion.

Equipment was imported directly under four separate supply chains — pump set from the UAE, smoke curtains from the UAE, fire-rated doors and dampers from Thailand, and dehumidification plant from China — coordinated by RADS alongside the installation programme.
